Fall at the AWHC

Whenever an event is planned at the AWHC, we never know what the weather will be like that day. This year we were fortunate that we had 2 beautiful Fall days for the annual harvest festival.  The historical venues were open as well as the corn maze, the giant slide and other such activities.

People are always fascinated by the process of producing yarn from wool.  Most of our wool spinning takes place on the Pioneer site.

The scenery is almost always spectacular.  It's easy to imagine the past when you see sights like these cowboys waiting to go to work--circa 1860.

This year the mountain men were having an encampment at the base of the beautiful Wellsville Mountains - circa 1820.

This past year they have been able to put in a new bridge to improve access to the pioneer site, so during the festival, the bridge was officially dedicated.   It has made it so much easier for us to get around out there.
This last picture is my most favorite woodwright and lace bobbin maker, making a bobbin on an old treadle lathe.  I think it must take a lot of coordination to shape that bobbin with hands, while furiously running the treadle to make the lathe go around!  What a workout!
